No offense if you aren’t a reader just skip to the bottom for some ideas to maintain your health in times of Quarentine.
As always the battle of the bulge is a real struggle for the majority of America. Although your overall health is not completely dependent on your weight, BMI, blood pressure, cholesterol, clothing size, etc; according to The CDC, which everyone should be familiar with at this point in our world history because of COV19. (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) tracks obesity prevalence by state and territory using self-reported information from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System. In 2017-18 42.4% nearing 50% of the population of America was considered obese. This was an increase of roughly 12% in less than 20 years (1999-2000 statistics) Severe Obesity had increased from 4.7% to 9.2% nearly doubling.
Needless to say being overweight as I can tell you is a bitch. The struggle is real, and this isn’t an article to shame you if you have some extra meat on your bones. It is something that everyone in America at this time being cooped up for the last month or more in their homes like my family and I have probably been struggling with.
Being limited to state and county among other regulation orders to stay at home in hopes to limit the spread of COVID19. Practicing Social Distancing, and only engage in essential travel necessary for groceries, work, health needs, or other minor and functional activities that are deemed essential for your lifestyle and family wherever you may be in America. The extra stress and financial worry has only added to the ability to try and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Gyms were not deemed essential businesses, leading to major corruption in routines if you were a regular gym goer. I had been on a roll at Planet Fitness going 3-5 times a week and even getting my sister and her husband engaged in a family gym habit. When the crack down on Cov19 hit. I know some of you probably exercise at home daily and have no issues going out for a jog, or hopping on that elliptical or treadmill you have at home. My friend Allison’s mom loved Richard Simons VHS and was an avid video a day mom. Although there are ways to stay active even with disruptions in your routines, it can feel quite disheartening and defeating.
Another issue is the whole eating healthy. With stores bombarded with people preparing for two weeks or more at home shelves at most stores were picked clean, fresh produce was out. Not to mention cut backs in jobs meant stocking stores was also an issue. Fear of even going to get groceries made eating healthy a challenge for some, like myself. It seems easier just to give up and stuff your face with sugar sometimes than to continue trying to manage your weight through diet and exercise. This is true of the best of us on normal circumstances let alone in times of crises like the one we are under now.
Obesity is an epidemic and has been on the rise since the 1970s. Since I like numbers here are some percentages. In 1970 roughly 15% of American adults were obese, by 2019 that 15% had increased to upwards of 40% according to MedicalNewsToday. Nearly a 200% increase over 50 years. America not to mention the world is scared right now. It seems as if time is standing still, yet nature is still maturing into spring and summer. Funny memes are rampant on the internet about all of us not getting out bikini body for summer. Spring break was a bust, and traveling and doing a lot of things like being social aren’t being condoned by Government officials. This has lead at least myself to get back on my anxiety medication to hopefully combat the increased urge to binge eat because of emotional stress. Out bodies naturally crave high carbs and sugar during stress because of increased levels of cortisol the hormone that increases stress.
I wasn’t skinny to begin with and have battled my weight my whole life. Women Probably have a love hate relationship with fat in general. Since we have periods and a lot of us have PMS this extra stress is a double whammy of trying to combat the urges to give in to our cravings. The body naturally trying to increase your serotonin in the brain by eating things high in sugar. Hang in there you are not alone. Men, I am not leaving you out either, just like husbands and fathers gain weight while their partners are pregnant I am sure unless you are an average man-person also struggling with the bulge you are in the same boat at having to put up with being in close proximity to your family and the financial stress of this new Flu.
Let’s get on with the universal problem being exacerbated by this virus thing going on and provide you with some helpful products that have been helping myself not over indulge too much. I know I lie to myself sometimes and say I am going to get skinny, and become the new J-Lo by X date and impress everyone. My grandiose ideas usually fall short of reality, but maintaining will power, and trying your best is baby steps to the healthiest you. Pat yourself on the back all you Americans who at least know you can be healthier and are adamantly trying on any given day to do better. It isn’t your fault that America has made food accessible, and the cheap fast food is so delicious and tempting. Resisting temptations in moderation is a strive towards feeling better.
TaDa! Thank you Amazon and Cov19 for the increase in online shopping. Also Walmart, and the internet for making things accessible with the click of a button. You’re probably trying to save money in this crazy uncertain future of ours, but staying healthy so when the bell jar lifts and this storm rolls away is essential to emerging from quarentine a beautiful butterfly instead of a lumpy lethargic caterpillar. Not equating size to beauty but you know, looking good is feeling good, and for us fatties out there losing weight equates to more flattering body image, more clothing options, and well America’s beauty ideals being socially acceptable. I know you want to eat that Pizza you can call Domino’s or those other delivery chains still accepting orders and making house calls, but persevere, and stay strong you can have it all just in moderation.
MOTIVATION TO GET MOVING
Instagram has been popping with famous people like Mark Wahlberg, Sam Heughan, Chris Hemsworth, among some to bring you their personal workouts. There are still VHS tapes, DVDS, YOUTUBE, and Facebook groups offering classes via video meet ups. Dance in your living room while you dust the furniture or sanitize Your Home. Also Outdoor activities and fresh air are actually encouraged during social distancing.
Although your parks may be closed, don’t take this as morbid, but Cemeteries are a great place to visit and walk. Mommies strolling their babies, and people walking dogs I have seen first hand while chilling in the sun in the south at my local cemetery. Be creative with your routine and run up and down your stairs x amount of times. Whip out that Wii fit and get your game on. Start a challenge with your family and do a Biggest Loser Challenge, as always money is the best incentive.
Make a vision board of all those hot body people you idolize. Just remember money buys plenty of beauty and most of them have probably had some work done. Make a play list for motivation on Spotify, Pandora, or whatever you use to get your jam on.
Heck did you know you can make your own butter all you Ketoers with 1 ingredient? It’s the originally shake weight also. A great kid activity as well.
If you have seen the video of the lady who made her own treadmill in her kitchen by pouring oil on the floor I don’t recommend that. However you have lots of time to get creative just think safety should be number one, as Hospitals don’t want any unnecessary or easily avoidable emergency cases piling up during COV19.

Truvia a Stevia sweetener comes in various styles like Cane Sugar Blend With 75% fewer calories per serving than sugar and bakes and browns like sugar. Also I really like the glandular consistency of Truvia. Find it in individual use packets, great on strawberries or in your baking. Specifically formulated to provide women with the nutrients they need, but won’t hurt men either so no discrimination. NOW in Luna Minis snack bars.
Tiger’s Milk Protein Bar: When I could still have Peanut Butter and in light of the TIGER KING hit Netflix Series indulge yourself in a Tiger’s Milk Protein Rich Nutrition Bar. Since the 1960’s now owned by Schaffer’s Nutrition International. In 2007 named by American Way Magazine as one of only 6 most edible energy bars out of 30 taste tested. Contains Milk, Peanuts, Soy, High Fructose Corn Syrup. Sorry No actual Tiger’s Milk Added so you won’t get Super Powers, and Also no Meth Added like the Tiger King Show.

Also if you are healthy and want some extra help my friends and I would recommend Phentermine. Attainable at DR. TO HELP Dr. James Kojian prescribes with a face to face interview for $79.99 a month supply in certain states like Georgia for example. Safe & FDA Approved. Great for increasing energy and suppressing appetite, You must not have any blood pressure or major health issues.
If you have any issues with General Anxiety or OCD, binge eating or compulsive habits I take Escitalopram generic Lexapro an SSRI to help with Generalized anxiety its one of the few SSRI’S that might actually reduce weight gain and encourage better habits by reducing stress and increasing serotonin. Side note you need to get a prescription I used CallonDoc who will send it to your preferred pharmacy. I got a 6 month prescription online for $89.99 plus the cost of medicine after discount card at your local Kroger, Walgreens, Fred Meyers etc; I recommend shopping around as Walmart was the most expensive pharmacy and had the lowest discount price. It takes about 2 weeks to a month to see results @ 10mg a day dosage. Disclaimer I had this medicine prescribed in the past by a psychiatrist, nurse practitioner, but do your own research, so I knew it worked for me, and there are very low side effects.
